May 29: Celebrate the Month of May with 13 Ugly Men Benefit in Hard Rock Cafe

SemHardRockSeminole Hard Rock Tampa will host a charity concert on Friday, May 29, in Hard Rock Cafe to benefit the 13 Ugly Men Foundation.

The 13 Ugly Men Foundation raises money for local charities and organizations that benefit children’s issues, women’s issues, crisis intervention, law enforcement and the military.

Following a red carpet ceremony at 6 p.m. outside of Hard Rock Cafe, Florida native Connor Zwetsch will take the stage to perform. Her unique style is defined by a sound laced with nostalgia and is shaped by a back-porch songwriter’s honesty with a penchant for catchy, upbeat melodies.

Zwetsch just released her debut album in January – What Comes After. It’s an autobiographical collection that will resonate with all who are navigating love, loss and the search for life’s silver linings.

In addition to the concert, the casino will stage a charity slot tournament. It will run from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and carries a $10 entry fee with 50 percent of the proceeds going to the charity and 50 percent to the prize pool. Tickets for the slot tournament may be purchased at the Rock Shop located next to Hard Rock Cafe. Participants must be 21 years of age or older and a Seminole Player’s Club cardholder.

The casino will also be donating 100 percent of the proceeds generated from sales of limited edition 13 Ugly Men Foundation sunglasses in the Rock Shop as well as proceeds from sales of the 2015 Seminole Hard Rock Girls Calendar.

After the concert, the casino will present to the charity a check and signed customized fender guitar.

Law received the 2015 “Most Powerful and Influential Women of Florida” award, a recognition that highlights high-ranking female executives in various industries who exhibit the tenacity it takes to excel in their field. Law was honored on Thursday, April 30 with a breakfast ceremony at the Sixth Annual Florida Diversity and Leadership Conference hosted at the Kovens Conference Center in North Miami. The Florida Diversity and Leadership Conference provides local and statewide business leaders with an opportunity to support and establish business development ideals geared towards inclusiveness at all levels.

Law serves as chair of the Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney’s Florida offices and is a member of the Board of Directors. She focuses her law practices in the areas of government, environmental law and land use. The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay ( ) announced today that it has presented the 2015 Charlie Hounchell Community Advocate Award to Nanci Newton, Director of USF’s Center for Victim Advocacy & Violence Prevention. Ms. Newton received the award in recognition of over 40 years of work dedicated to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

A native of Tampa, she directed rape crisis centers and battered women’s programs in Wisconsin and Georgia before joining the Women’s Center of Jacksonville as Program Coordinator of Stop Violence Against Elders. At the Women’s Center, she was Co-Writer and Executive Producer of a national and international award-winning curriculum, Stop Violence Against Elders: A Comprehensive Training for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Professionals.

She has extensive experience in training law enforcement, prosecutors, medical professionals, and advocates as well as lecturing at universities, and state and national conferences. Her Rape Crisis Center Advocate’s Resource and Training Manual, written for Madison, Wisconsin’s Rape Crisis Center, became an internationally recognized model.

Ms. Newton has also has served as a trainer and consultant to the National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life, the federal Office of Violence Against Women, and the Office of the Attorney General (State of Florida).

The award was presented to Ms. Newton at the 2015 Take Back The Night event at Tampa’s Curtis Hixon Park on Sunday, April 26th. The award is named in honor of the late Charlie Hounchell, who served on the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay’s Board of Directors.  Mr. Hounchell was an enthusiastic activist and community advocate for the greater Tampa Bay Area.
