Valspar Championship Presented By BB&T Community Drivers Program Continues With the First Tee of Clearwater
The Valspar Championship presented by BB&T continues its Community Drivers Program in December with a donation of $24,500 to The First Tee of Clearwater.
The First Tee of Clearwater is one of three programs operated by the Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation. This program has a 10-week Summer Camp, daily certification classes and trains local elementary PE teachers to implement its National School Program.
Coupled with other programs from last March’s tournament, including a raffle and pro-am, the Valspar Championship has now generated a total of more than $37,000 to The First Tee of Clearwater/Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation in 2014.
The Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation has been helping thousands of local children since 1979. Located on McMullen Booth Road in north Clearwater, the Foundation has been a chapter with PGA TOUR’s The First Tee National Program since 2004, but was essentially the precursor to The First Tee’s concept. The Foundation also collaborates with the Pinellas County School District on a public school for at risk students and the Boys & Girls Club of the Suncoast serving more than 1,500 children annually.

Baldwin Risk Partners Recognized as One of Insurance Journal’s Top 50 Personal Lines Leaders
Baldwin Risk Partners (BRP) was named as one of Insurance Journal’s Top 50 Personal Lines Leaders, its tenth award this year. This recognition is limited to an elite group of nationwide privately owned agencies and brokerages. “Our accolades are an indicator of our success, but they’re also an indicator of who we are. The secret to our success is our colleagues and our core values, which revolve around impeccable client service. The Insurance Journal’s ranking was based on an annual survey and 2013 personal lines premium numbers. Since opening the doors in 2006, BRP has utilized its Holistic ProtectionTM model and has produced double digit growth and unprecedented client retention. “This past year, our Private Risk management group has developed a pro-active and systematic approach to identifying and addressing potential risks for our clients,” said Laura Sherman, Partner at Baldwin Risk Partners. “Our Private Risk business segment has enjoyed an organic growth rate of 29%, with total BRP growth equaling 43%.”
Stageworks Theatre’s “Handle with Care” Earns Enthusiastic Audience Reviews
“Laughing and enjoying Handle with Care! Truly loved the show.”
“Perfect for the holidays!”
For actress Georgina McKee, preparing for her role in Stageworks Theatre’s production of “Handle with Care” required more than learning her lines, the music and the staging. She also had to learn a new language – Hebrew.
McKee spent six months studying with an Israeli tutor to play the role of Ayelet in Stageworks’ production of “Handle with Care” Thursday Dec. 5 through Dec. 21 at Stageworks Theatre, 1120 E. Kennedy Blvd., in the the Channel District.
“I needed an actress who would not stop until (the language) was correct,” said Karla Hartley, Stageworks’ Producing Artistic Director. “Georgina has that kind of commitment to her craft and I knew she would get it just right. And she got it right.”
Directed by Jimmy Kontos, the performance also stars Eddie Gomez as Josh, Midge Mamatas as Edna and Brandon Shea as Terrence.
Written by Emmy-nominated playwright, Jason Odell Williams, Handle with Care tells the story of Ayelet, a young Israeli woman who reluctantly travels to America with her grandmother, who’s searching for the lost love of her youth. Snowed in on Christmas Eve with a translator who’s trying to remember his Bar Mitzvah Hebrew, the three create a joyful and heartwrenching celebration, and the meeting of two souls who likely would never have met otherwise.
Handle with Care, which the New York Times called a “hilarious and heartwarming romantic comedy,” is “maybe a Jewish love story, but you don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy it,” adds Hartley.
“It’s really about finding common ground,” says Hartley. “Regardless of your ethnicity, religion, coutry of origin; it’s about finding love, coming together and finding common ground. That’s a message that resonates with everyone.”
Tickets for Stageworks Theatre’s production of Handle with Care are $30; Students and Seniors $15.
Tickets are available at www.stageworkstheatre.org and by calling 813-374-2416.
Show times are 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays.
